Growing food access, one partnership at a time.

After 26 years in the internet, phone, and video industries, and 17+ years hands-on in community agriculture, I'm bringing both worlds together β€” connecting farms, food banks, and local organizations across the region.

About Me

For more than 17 years, I was deeply involved in the Long Reach Community Garden in Howard County, Maryland, alongside my partner of 22 years, Allison. Together we managed more than 600 square feet of growing space, often maintaining two adjoining plots, and worked as full-time growers producing over 100 plants through the spring, summer, and fall. Every fall we planted and harvested more than 100 garlic bulbs across multiple varieties.

Our involvement went beyond growing food. Allison served at the board level, supporting the garden's broader operations and community, while I worked at the ground level β€” collaborating with the site manager, fellow gardeners, and Master Gardeners, both on-site and through activities beyond the garden. We also connected the garden's work with local food-bank efforts, helping bring fresh, locally grown food to people who needed it.

I grew up in Ohio surrounded by relatives who ran farms, and that early exposure to agriculture stayed with me. Over the years it grew into something larger: an interest in connecting farms, growers, organizations, businesses, nonprofits, and communities so that resources can reach the people and programs that can put them to work.

What I Bring to the Table

A new chapter, built on twenty-six years of relationships and seventeen years in the soil.

After 26 years working in the internet, phone, and video industries, I'm now exploring a new professional chapter focused on agriculture, food sourcing, community partnerships, and local food systems.

This transition is personal as well as professional. Following the passing of my partner, Allison, after 22 years together, I've taken the opportunity to reevaluate my priorities and focus my experience on work that's meaningful to me.

I bring more than 17 years of hands-on gardening and community agriculture experience, combined with 26 years of professional relationships, partnerships, agreements, and connections built across the region β€” from Silver Spring and Takoma Park, to Capitol Hill, and eventually Columbia, Maryland. Those relationships are one of the most valuable things I bring to this next chapter.

My Personal Motto

Something I learned in the Marines β€” and carry with me into this next chapter.

Semper Fidelis
Mark Coltrin β€” The Gardener

Semper fidelis is a Latin phrase meaning "always faithful" or "always loyal." It's a lifelong pledge of loyalty β€” to country, to fellow service members, and to duty β€” and it's stayed with me well beyond my time in the Marines, as a value guiding how I try to conduct myself, in the garden and in business alike.

Translation
"Always faithful"
Commitment
A lifelong pledge of loyalty to country, fellow service members, and duty.
Usage
Used as a greeting, a farewell, and a core value guiding personal conduct.
